Lions Fall in PAAC matchup at Muncie Burris

Lions Fall in PAAC matchup at Muncie Burris

Liberty Christian fell to Muncie Burris on the night of August 21, 2017 in 3 sets. The Lions were coming in looking to capitalize on their earlier win against Greenwood Christian. The Owls were looking to keep their momentum after winning their first game of their season. The 1st set, was close early on. Liberty held a tight set and stayed within striking distance only being down a few points. Out of the 1st time out of the set, the Owls opened up a 13-8 lead and made it 18-12 later. But with small little 2 and 3 point runs, the Lions fell to the Owls in the 1st set by a score of 25-16. The Owl’s #15

Mykel Ivy emerged in the 2nd set and started the set out with an emphatic kill. Ivy had 6 kills in the set. But again, the Lions held it close early in the set. The Owl’s’ #22 Kaylse Garrett had a spike out of a time out and the Owls went on a 12-2 run to take the 2nd set 25-11. In the 3rd and last set, the Owls came out hot and opened a 6-2 lead early.

Mykel Ivy had another good set with 4 kills, but the Lions held up tough. Touches on the ball just weren’t going in the Lion’s favor that night. The Owls extended their lead to 20-9 and won the set 25-11. Following the match we asked Liberty head coach Mike Carey on his thoughts of the game. “We were too worried on mistakes. And were not moving freely. We need to continue to talk even when we are down in the match. Body language also says a lot.” However,  Carey was also very pleased with some aspects of the game; When asked what the Lions did well in the contest Carey responded, “In the third set I was very pleased with our improvement when passing after receiving a ball. We also did better tracking a ball with our whole body instead of just using our arms.” The Lion’s record fell to 3-3 overall 1-1 in the PAAC. The Owl’s record improved to 2-0. The Lions play at home on Tuesday vs APA.
